The tall plain's of acropolis hardly lent themselves to this peacefull place as the weather seemed to throw down it's arsenall, Heavy raidrop's pelting the floor only to have the sky iluminate with dark slashes through the sky as lightning bounced between the dark sky's blocking out all the moonlight casting the area into darkness,

For one though the darkness hardly seemed to either effect or slow him down as shadow skimmed the floor blasting between tree's and over water as such skillfully able to dodge any obstacle within his range... either that or he just smashed his way through it with his own spin-dash,

The hedgehog's blood red eye's were merely intent on carrying out his new master's plan, After all now grave knew he had leverage over shadow he didn't have much of a choice in the matter,

"S-Sonic? This is scary..."

"Nah, don't worry about it Kasim. It's just a little storm."

The solhoutte of two mobian forms moved inside the entrance of a shallow cave that cut into one of the hills in the forest. It was just deep enough to give them shelter from the freezing rain and Sonic, apparently wet, was squeezing the water from his quills.

A wolf, younger by probably two years, was leaning against the muddy wall of the cave, shivvering and clutching his arms.

"We're never going to find that ring at this rate." He muttered whinely. But when he realized that Sonic really wasn't paying attention to such a comment, he shifted his silver gaze out into darkness and the rain. Lightning flashed, and he thought he saw the figure of...what looked like a hedgehog, making his way parallel to them.

He blinked, the lightning vanishing just as quickly as it had appeared, and everything was dark again.

"Hey Sonic, what's that?"

"Huh?" The blue hedgehog followed his gaze out into the storm, both of them falling silent and listining intently to the soft thunder echoing in the heavens and the rain pelting the pines and the icy ground.

"Ah, it's probably just your imagination."

"But I saw something! I really did when the lightning flashed!"

Sonic stopped and looked again, unable to see anything other than the sploches of snow and shadows. The two of them fell silent again, waiting on another flash of lightning, or some other evidence that Kasim wasn't just seeing things. Their ears pricked and eyes attentive. Sonic of coarse, didn't look so worried. But Kasim's eyes were in constant motion, and his breathing becoming deeper.

Alone in the dark shadow didn't hesitate or even slow down as he watched the blue hedgehog in the cave up ahead only smirking to himself within grim satisfaction as he disapeared into the night before the lightning could give him away.

"He's sure..." Shadow answered for his little freind, The black hedgehog merely beside them both inside the cave, He seemed laid back and calm lean't against the rock wall with his arm's folded stubbornly and his blood-red eye's closed. "You have something i want..." Shadow spoke tonelessly or more-rather threateningly as he opened his eye's glaring at sonic in such a way that maybe even death might think twice. "Give me the chaos emerald faker..." Shadow narrowed his tone down almost to a growl as he levered himself from the wall and readying himself tensing a fist behind him,

It was obvious shadow wasn't playing games... And what's worse is that for sonic they where both perfectly matched except possibly for sonic's slight speed advantage though that was easily over-ruled by shadow's ability's to warp time and space, And even use chaos energy as a weapon harnessed into his controll.

"WHA!" Kasim nearly sprang out of his skin when Shadow's voice first spoke, coming back down and landing on the side of his foot which caused the short wolf to collapse to the cold and muddy ground. He pushed himself away with his legs, staring at the black and red hedgehog's eyes in total surprise, eyes wild and tainted in terror.

Sonic, however, was a different story. The blue hedgehog simply turned and flashed a gamely grin, despite the dangerous tone in Shadow's dark voice and the hellish look in his eyes, "Heya Shadow..." He said in his usual bright and confident tone, causing Kasim's wild stare to suddenly flash over to Sonic.

"That's no way to greet an old friend." He grinned, toying with the black hedgehog now even though it wasn't really all that obvious. And even though the storm and darkness mixed with the aura of unease that radiated off this hedgehog like a scent set the atmosphere in a frightful gloom, Sonic wasn't affected in the least. Much less was he afraid.

He shook his head at the "give me the chaos emerald" order, his grin thinning to a smile, "Some people just never learn do they?"

Shadow narrowed his eye's slightly before smirking himself letting the rage his mind had been led to believe take over, "Heh, Fine... Then i shall take it from you!" Shadow didn't give sonic a quarter of a second to react as shadow retratcted disapearing in his formorly flash of energy before re-apearing crouched down and going to sucker-punch him from behind.

"Im taking that emerald fake hedgehog... Even if i have to pry it from your cold... Dead, Hand's..." shadow eye's flashed within slight insanity and rage neither inseperable from the other the only reall rellease was from that of his master and that was highly unlikely at all at the moment,

Sonic grunted loudly at the hit, followed by a screach of alarm from Kasim.

The blue hedgehog slid in the icy mud and as he did so, rolled into a ball. He put out his legs and slid to a stop, raising once again to his feet. The cold rain fell in larger droplets on them now, so much it almost hurt. But Sonic really wasn't thinking about the rain.

He ran a fist across his cheek to whipe off the blood and water, then spat a bloody tooth onto the ground, "That's another trip to the dentist." He said to himself with a shudder, then squinted his eyes through the rain at his sudden enemy.

"Alright Shadow! If this is how you wanna play it you better hope you can do better than that, punk!" He sprang in the air just as lightning bounced through the clouds in the heavens, curling into a spindash and zeroing in for a homing attack. His sharp quills gleamed in the light, rain splatter flying in all directions as his blue orb twisted as it spun down for Shadow's head.

Shadow far more unfortunate being ploughed backward's through the dirt but kicked back... Hard. The black hedgehog didn't bother wiping away the blood that streaked down his black fur the slash above his eye streaming blood around his eye's giving that effect that shadow wasn't entirely there,

The rain washed the dirt off him leaving the blood to streak down him as shadow began to snicker quite menacingly, "That's your best?..." shadow laughed more audiably before flashing his deathly eye's back onto him like poisoned arrow's "Let me show you my reall power!" Shadow snapped litterally tensing up and flosting slightly off the floor as he released high volumes of red chaos energy from his body in one huge chaos blast easily effecting everyone quite badly within range of 80 meter's of himself,

Shadow stepped down slowly smirking to himself as he looked down at the charred ground forced back where the blast had eminated from him, "Give me that emerald faker..." shadow growled slowly looking up to see what had happened to his enemy,

"Whoa!" Sonic yelped at Shadow's next move, after landing the back-flip that got him out of his spindash.

"Sonic!" Kasim closed his eyes tightly, covering his head as he saw the red chaos energy barreling toward him, destroying everything in it's path. He didn't want to watch. But he suddenly felt himself lifted from the ground and teh wind in his face, the sound of a burning explosion deafening his ears.

Naturally, Sonic had sped to the rescue, and didn't stop running until the darkness engulfed them both and the red light of the chaos blast faded from behind them. A wide-trunked tree became clear in the blue hedgehog's vishion and he dashed up it's side, stopping at a high branch in the tall pine tree and setting the wolf down, allowing him to wrab his arms around the trunk.

"What's happening?!" Kasim, now crying, wailed loudly.

"Shh! Not so loud!" Sonic whispered and Kasim's ears flattened, as if Sonic had used a sharp tone, "Me and Shadow do this all the time. HI'll admit he's acting a little different, but it'll be okay. Just stay here alright?"

Kasim nodded and watched Sonic spring to the limb of another tree, the needles on the pines iced and sparkiling like crystals in the dull light. He contenued his desent, not knowing where Shadow was and fully expecting an attack. But he didn't know how or from what way, and could only hope he'd reach the ground in time before Shadow spotted him.

Shadow looked up spotting the blue speed freak before he reached the ground and smirked menecingly, "Well well faker... Look's like you can outrun my attack," Shadow smirked baring his unusually sharp canines, "Too bad you'll never survive to tell the tale." Shadow taunted him before blast off directly toward's the blue hedgehog in a head-on collision coarse only to disapear mere milimeter's before their head's clashed re-apearing behind sonic and rounding his heel upon sonic's spine.

Shadow had no intention of killing sonic at all but if it came to it he really didn't care either way, He Was going to get that chaos emerald one way or another, "Seem's to me your loosing blue hedgehog..." shadow's cold-hearted voice spoke from behind him but shadow had disapeared using mind-games against his nemesis as shadow was nowhere to be seen... only heard. "Give it up faker... Give me that emerald."

A slight crack could be heard when Shadow's heal came down and this was an attack that Sonic didn't recover gracefully from.

He slammed into the ground about two storys from where he and Shadow had made contact with a loud "oof!" He rose himself from the ground, on his hands and knees with one hand clutching his ribs, coughing.

"-cough- ahh, that -cough- hurt!" He moaned, grimicing before he took that hand off his ribs and clutched it into a fist about an inch off the ground, glancing upward before springing back to his feet as if nothing had happened, apparently, not all that phased.

He leaned back, letting his nose tilt upward and put his hands on his back. There was another snap coming from his spine, soft and even a bit sickening. But he brought his head back down, and started jogging in place, "Loosing? Hah! You've obviously forgotten who I am, faker." He smirked then flashed up the nearest tree, before turning to face Shadow again.

He held his smirk, and held out a hand, as if he were holding something. In a small flash, a green chaos emerald appeared in his palm, "You want?" He asked, teasing him again.

Suddenly, a blue light tented the darkness and the next moment, a large, yet fairly weak chaos orb was sent hurling at Shadow from above and slightly behind him, a voice echoing from behind it, "Leave Sonic alone you demon!"

Sonic smacked the other hand over his face, covering his eyes, "Don't do that, Kasim..." He muttered

Shadow's blood red eye's were too transfixed on what sonic had to notice the ball of chaos energy that errupted into him barely enougth to kock him down, "D*mn kid..." Shadow muttered under his breathe as he fell disapearing before he hit the floor next moment standing behind kasim with that evil intent obv ious on his features, If shadow had to take hostages then so be it but shadow would get what he came for.

"Try that again..." Shadow snickered looking down on kasim as he pulled a fist back that became engulfed in a powerfull red aura of chaos energy, Shadow wasn't fooling around and neither was the power he was putting into his fist as he reached out to grab kasim by the scruff of his neck with the other before casting a nasty glare at sonic. "Your choice fake hedgehog..." Shadow cast a deeply warning in his voice, He had had quite enougth of toying with his enemy, Now he had a job to do.

Kasim's ears flattened and he leaned into Shadow's hold in fear, hardly noticing that this was why there was such a sharp pain in his scruff, which failed in comparison to the fear that set his heart into overdrive. He hic-uped, breathing deeply. Poor kid looked like he was going to hyber-venilate and closed his eyes, shielding back as if he expected his life to be over at any minute.

Sonic moved his fingers on his face so he could peer through them, then moved that hand to his side and glared mildly up at Shadow with one brow slightly lowered. This hedgehog really meant business now huh? Sonic didn't trust Shadow when he was like this....actually...he didn't trust Shadow anyway. But Sonic knew that it wouldn't be smart to push him farther. Especially when it was someone's life on the line.

At last he sighed, closing his eyes, "Alright, alright Shadow you win." He said, just to calm him down then opened his eyes, leaning back with the emerald in both hands as if he were a pitcher on a baseball team, "Fetch!" He chunked the glowing green gem through the forest. It was like a ghost eye floating through the darkness.

Shadow threw kasim down like some dis-used or unwanted toy shooting sonic a peircing glare just before the emerald left his finger's before his intention's remained firmly on the green gem, "Hm, Take this word of advice faker... Stay out our way." Shadow disapeared as quickly as he had come blasting off through the snow or rather skimming across it as he and the sparkling eye of an emerald sonic threw disapeared into the night,

Sonic darted off the branch and accross the forest floor. He stopped under where Kasim was going to land, holding out his arms and taking a few steps to the side...then a few steps the other way.

"WHAAAAAAAaaaa-OOF!"

The small wolf landed perfectly in Sonic's arms. He hardly had time to put him down before Kasim latched onto his torso, sobbing and shivering.

Sonic widened his eyes briefly, then looked down at the younger mobian sympathetically. He put his hands on Kasim's shoulders and coaxed him gently into letting go, and the wolf looked up at him teary eyed, "He was a mean hedgehog!"

Sonic quickly swallowed a grin. Yeah....very observent. But Sonic couldn't help from feel a little compassion for the litle wolf's situation. He really didn't have a wide vocabulary yet. And he knew that he was dead serious and still scared stiff, "Hey, it's alright Kasim. Some people are that way." He shrugged, as if it were no big deal, "Don't worry about it." He smiled putting his arm around his shoulders and began leading him away, "C'mon, let's get out of this rain."
