Pyran was amazed at how soon the police had seemed to have forgotten him. Maybe he really was just that good. There wasn't even a whisper of the madcat on the police radios and the news focused on gang wars and the weather. Pointless every-day things like that.
It seemed fairly safe to go out in public again and Pyran figured he should say hi to that kid like he'd said he would.
In the Firestone neighborhood, Pyran was practically falling asleep in a playground at the park, lying against the wood with his air board on top of him. No one else was there at this hour. He knew the kid must live close to here, if his nose was right (and it always was.) Taking out a cell phone, Pyran dialed the number.

Celina watched the phone patiently, like a panther waiting for its prey. She was waiting for her new boyfriend to call. He said he would, and she would wait there until he did.
The ring startled her. She didn't expect him to call at that hour. Suspiciously, the pale blue coyote lifted the receiver. "Hello?" she said, in a sing-song voice.
Meanwhile, just one level above Celina, a younger coyote was taking an airboard out of his closet. Justin-Jay admired its brightly colored surface. He stroked it. Sitting on the bed behind him, Justin carefully placed the airboard on his lap and looked at it up and down, making sure he had every last detail of it inscripted in his memory. He laid down on the bed, legs still dangling of the edge. Staring at the ceiling, he thought about Pyran. The purple coyote wondered if the cat remembered him. Just then, the phone rang.

"Ah...hi. Is Justin there?" came a voice, a voice that probably wouldn't be too familiar to Celina considering she hadn't been with Pyran for long last time. "Tell him its Pyran." Would she remember his name either? The best detectives didn't even know his name. Especially because that wasn't Pyran's real name, but his real name belonged to someone presumed to be six feet under.

Celina blinked. She was silent for a moment. She opened her mouth for a second, and closed again. She swallowed, and managed to mumble: "Just a moment please." Celina was confused. She'd never heard her brother talk about a 'Pyran'. Nonetheless, she called for her younger sibling to answer the phone.
"Pyran?" Justin asked as he picked up the receiver. His mind burst with joy. "I take it you didn't get caught," he chuckled. But of course, he made sure his sister was off the phone before he said that. He scratched his ear excitedly.

"Hey kid! I didn't forget about you. You still wanna learn some tricks on that airboard of yours? We'll be more careful this time, I promise. Maybe we'll go out to the desert, somewhere with less people. Heh, I really should have thought of that before...anyways, what you think about that?" Pyran's cheerful voice asked through the receiver.
((Lol! Poor Pyran, he must be a kitty of very few friends. Other than Relka, who pulls a gun on him just about once a week, Wraith, who cheated with Relka, Dawn, who still thinks Pyran is a freak, and his ex-wife Cyan who killed him! Yea, no wonder he's deprived.))

Justin laughed. "I don't care where we go," he answered, "I just want to go!" He gazed up towards his room with envy, excited to get started. "Where're we gonna meet?" he asked, still enthusiastic.
Meanwhile, Celina was pacing in the living room below her brother. She was suspicious. Very suspicious. This 'Pyran' Guy didn't sound all too nice. In fact, he sounded suspicous. Very suspicious. Could he be the "Maniacal Cat" that ran around the neighborhood? Maybe he was, for all Celina knew. After all, Justin-Jay had been interviewed by the cops about a crazy black cat. Her brother hadn't been specific, and it worried her that he had befriended a criminal, and that the criminal was making him do stuff that her little brother didn't want to do. And now he was calling to get her sibling to commit yet another crime. If Celina didn't know any better, she would eavesdrop. Well, actually, eavesdropping didn't sound like a bad idea right now...

"Well there's this nice park I'm at right now I think it's not too far from where you're at, right? Firestone Park, most of its wood, you know what I'm talking about? Head on over here in that airboard of yours and we'll see where to go from there."
The wind picked up and it smelled cold, but in truth it didn't feel very cold--not to Pyran. It was an odd combination, being in Pyran's head.

Justin searched his mind for the location of the park and nodded. "Yeah, okay. I know where you are. I'll see ya there! Bye!" He hung up and ran to his room, only to grab his airboard and run back out again.
"I'm going to see a friend, I'll prob'ly be gone all daybye!" Justin shouted quickly as he left the house. He mounted his airboard and shot towards the Firestone Park, ears perked up with excitement.

Pyran was waiting, well sort of. He was trying out his own airboard, using its power to hover to his advantage. Jumping up and griding along the top rail of the swings or flipping over the chain bridge. As he landed he sent wood chips flying, his engine giving a sudden roar as he brought it around.
"Hey, kid! How about we just start going south, away from the city, we'll see from there. Less people to worry about hitting, but you do have to worry about cows!"

With a nod, Justin-Jay steered his board southward. "Wanna.. Nevermind. Maybe we shouldn't race," he called after Pyran.
He shot forward, attempting to catch up to the cat. He swerved back and forth along the side of the road. "What're you gonna teach me?" He asked Pyran. He imagined all the things he could do after Pyran was through with him and he smirked with satisfaction.

Pyran shrugged. "I could teach you to car-hop, but we know how well that works out," he said with a cynical smirk. "Or...I could teach you to ride along the sides of buildings when you go fast enough. But for that we really should be heading the other way, towards the city. So...I guess all that leaves me with is to teach you to jump and flip!" Pyran looked ahead and his eyes widened with surprise. "Speak of the devil, look what someone left out in the street just for us." A small ramp for skateboards or bikes was up ahead. Pyran crouched down, adjusting his footing. "Speed up, keep up with me. Now get your feet like this, crouch down. When you go up the ramp, lean forward, then...well actually just go up the ramp and do what feels natural to ya, I'll watch." It was better to learn on your own.

Justin frowned with concentration. He sped up, going faster and faster toward the ramp. He flew up it, and last minute he lost his balance, and his foot made the airboard fly up into the air, but not too high, because it turned around in midair as the coyote flipped backwards, and landed on his board, panting and struck dumb.
He halted next to Pyran, eyes wide. To the cat, it probably looked like a skillful maneuver, but to Justin, it was near death. "I... wow," was all the small purple coyote was able to blurt out.

Pyran's eyes were wide, eyebrows raised. "Heh, wow's right! Though I think you rather did that on accident! Haha! Either that or you're just one heck of a natural. Okay, kid. Let's try something else. Pick up your speed--a lot. You probably won't be able to hear me once you get going fast enough, just do what I do and don't you dare fall off!"
Pyran sped up, passing him up as he swept forward. He went onto the sidewalk, his eyes set forward on an upcoming long line of fence. Suddenly he just jumped--just a little--and he was riding along the side of the fence, completely horizontal.
It didn't last long, he got off quick. You can only do that for so long before gravity takes its toll.

Justin bit his lip and nodded again. This time, if he made it, it would be no acciedent. And if he didn't.... The young coyote shook the thought out of his mind and instead concentrated on copying Pyran. He did just as the older cat did. He sped up, rode the sidewalk then jumped onto the fence, barely making it off. As he gradually stopped further on, he realized he hadn't ben breathing all that time, and he took a deep breath, before letting out a long sigh of relief.
Back at Justin's home Celina had just hung up from an important conversation:
"Hello, fire, ambulance, or police?" "Uh.. Police." "Just a moment please." "Thanks." "Hello, Westopolis Police department." "Hi.. I'd like to report a...uh.. criminal. I.. didn't see him, he's with my little brother." "Is your little brother in danger?" "Um.. Maybe, I don't really know." "Do you know where they are?" "Firestone Park. The wooden playground in the Firestone Neighborhood." "Are you sure?" "Right now I am, but if you wait any longer they might not be!" "Right.. Thank you ma'am. Do you know the name of the criminal?" "Pyran." "Excuse me, did you say Pyran?" "Yes, now go find him please before my brother gets killed!" "Yes ma'am, thanks again." Click. "Who the heck is Pyran supposed to be?" Click.

Pyran was a mass-murdering, bloodthirsty, undead cat who was casually riding an airboard down the street at an alarming speed with some kid nearby.
"Nice job, kid! Keep it up!" he shouted over the wind as he quickly killed his speed. He dropped back suddenly, taking it slow. Really, those sort of speeds got deadly if you were to ever fall off and the last thing Pyran wanted to do was be responsible for another corpse. "Kay, let's take it slow now. There are old ladies jogging and old men walking their dogs and we don't wanna run them over. Come on, into the street--it's out of the way, just watch out for cars."
Pyran's ears were perked as he heard a dog barking in the distance. And of course the usual distant sirens from the city.
