It was one o'clock, and waiting in the middle of the food court was Storm. She was in a chair, holding her jacket close to her, which was odd since she was in a warm mall. She also had a baseball cap worn low, and from underneath that you would be able to see her right eye swollen shut, a bruise on her left cheek, and a minor scrape on her neck. Tears streamed down her pretty face, and she sniffled in pain.
Mat', where are you...please, hurry up and get here, you're already ten minutes late...oh god I don't want to do this, but I have to...I don't want to...why do they want me?! It's not fair..I don't get it...why me?!
There was a slight commotion from the other side of the court, and Mat burst into view, knocking over some other guy. Dashing into the area, he looked wildly left, then right, untill he found Storm and shot across the room, sliding into the seat across from her. "Oh, Light, sorry I'm late. Lot's of bad things right now, and I'm certain that Cloud's to-"
He cut off abruptly as he noticed her injuries. "What. The. F#@&. Who did this?" He gently reached out a hand, caressing her face tenderly. "I swear under the Light and on my hope of rebirth, somebody is going to be pushing dasies when I catch up with them."
Her pretty eyes softened and she sniffled, practically choking on tears. She gasped at first, but then shook her head, pain present in her eyes. I have to, for his safety... " Mat', I-I need to talk to you...this is very important. We c-can't..." She paused, breaking into a weep. " We can't see each other anymore!" She just suddenly blurted out.
She quickly got up from her chair and began to walk away. Please don't follow Mat'...I love you, but I-I don't want you to die...
Mat was physically stunned, surprised so much he nearly fell out of his chair. "What? Wait.... What?" He kipped to his feet and took off, running to catch up. "You can't get rid of me that easily. I need a good reason. And I need to know who hurt you."
There was no way that she was ending it on a whim.
If this is supposed to be something against me.... Was it that fat b*st*rd at the bar? Is he trying to get back at me through Storm? Oh, I'll f*ckin' MURDER his *ss!
Storm sniffled and stopped. The gorgeous hedgehog turned around, her arms crossed. She sighed, and rolled her eyes. She wiped some of the tears on her sleeve before speaking.
" N-No one hurt me Mat'," she began, looking back and forth cautiously, " look, I-I gotta go...and we're just not, meant fo- No, I am seeing som- no...I dunno. I-I just don't wanna see you ever again, go away....please." She said sobbing, before looking back and forth nervously, checking her surroundings.
Mat was not convinced. "I'm not convinced. And if nobody hurt you, you would be without a black eye, bruised cheek, and scraped neck." He then put his hands on her shoulders and said, "You would also not be crying. You're too strong for that."
"Besides," he added, "Even if you don't want to see me again, the reverse is not precisely true. To reiterate; you are not getting rid of me that easily. Especially not if you have to try three times for a reason."
Then mat's eyes narrowed. "What's going on? What's the real reason? Can't you trust me?"
Storm winced as soon as his hands touched her shoulders. Tears streamed down her face. " Ow...please I'm hurt there too..." She whimpered, before pulling away. She swallowed hard and glanced about again.
" Mat', I can trust you...this if for you. Trust me Mat'...I don't want anything to hurt you." She ended up blurting out. She then thrust herself into a hug with him. " I'm sorry Mat'...I love you so much,I just...I don't want anyone to get hurt..."
Wrapping his arms around his girlfriend, Mat hugged her back gently, trying not to hurt her any more than she already was. "I love you more, and I don't want you to get hurt, but it's happpened. I need to know what's going on, and I don't care if I end the day bleeding. Am I clear, Storm? My life is nothing next to yours."
Storm sniffled, and let her boyfriend hold her softly. She stood on her tippy toes and kissed him quick, before standing flat footed again. She fixed her hair and quills a bit, and gave a gulp. Her eyes shifted back and forth again as she quivered in fear. " P-Please Mat'... I can't tell you what's going on...please, just, just stop trying to inervene." She mumbled softly.
"If I didn't try to intervene," Mat said, "Cloud would kill me, and you know it. Speaking of, does Cloud know about this?" That was a good question. If Cloud knew, he might blame Mat. The Manetherin hedgehog was already in a spot of legal trouble, having been framed for a bank robbery. "Quite frankly, Storm, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't intervene. I have to know."
Storm looked deep into his eyes. It was clearly evident she couldn't lie now. She ended up hugging him tightly and resting her head on his shoulder. The hedgehog gave a sigh, and she sniffled one last time. " No, he doesn't know... look... remember my boss? He's...He's got people attacking me. He was losing business and he blames it on me...please...just stay out of it though Mat'."
"I think I might remove his throat. Listen, I don't care who he has attacking you. They'll all hit the ground the same way." He gave her a quick kiss, then said, "And Cloud would say the same thing." Another quick kiss. "It's in my blood to protect you. Do you understand? You're going nowhere without me tagging along."
((End. Eventually we'll do the follow up to this.))
Storm gave a quick nod, and finally she actually released a smile. It wasn't the best, but it was still a smile right? That smile, then transformed into a passionate kiss and a tight hug. Oh Mat' I love you....
