SparkDust, formally known as Dusty, strolled through the mall. The air was filled with cell phones ringing, people talking, laughing, babies crying. He spotted something in a display window that caught his eye; a green laptop for a surprisingly low price. He stared at it, fidgiting with the volume on his iPod Nano. He softly clacked his toung and kept moving.
Arriving in front of a toy store, Dusty paused. He chuckled silently to himself as he thought of what his sister would do in front of this store. Luckily, he'd once more escaped the job of babysitting her. Actually, babysitting DawnStar was more like bratdragging. She was a brat, and he had to drag her around all day, all the time, everywhere. But not today.
He sighed as he remembered the last time he had a break was the day he met Ashaes. He loved her, and he'd only seen her once. He ignored the fact that she might be in the surrounding areas, maybe even in the mall itself. He moved along, more disappointed due to his memories.

Not for long.
"DUUUUSTYYYYYY!"
Ashaes ran up behind SparkDust and leapt, tackling him from behind in a monster hug. "Hiya!" Scrambling off, the hedgehog placed one half-gloved hand on her knees, holding the other out to Dusty to help him up. It was kinda mean, she knew, but still, it was fun. She was still giggling.
It had been a while since they'd last met. The last time, Sammael totally ruined the outing. Jerk. Anyway, she liked the guy. Not the way she liked Sonic, that's for certain, but he was a friend. She had no idea how Dusty felt about her.

Dusty smiled, and took her hand. What a surprise, but she shouldn't be here after what happened at Sparkle Park the other day. Actually, no one had reckognized her there, so she wasn't in too much danger. But if someone did reckognized her... Dusty prefered not to think of it, and to concentrate on having a good time with Ashaes.
"So, you in any trouble?" he asked, remembering how hurried she was to leave last time. She said Ishm(m?)ael would kill her if she didn't get back in 10 minutes. "You don't look very dead to me. In fact, you look quite alive!" He remarked with a soft chuckle.

"Nope, not dead! Got there and reported on time. He actually gave me a minute of lenience. I'm here because I need some new shirts, and Sammael gave me some money for a trench. He says I'd look good in one, but I have to buy my own."
Pulling the hedgehog to his feet, she looked up at him with a somewhat forced smile. "I hate being short...."

"Why's that? I'm short too, and I've gotten used to it." Dusty disagreed. Sure, being short could be a pain, but it wasn't all that bad. Dusty checked his iPod. It wasn't broken, and neither were his headphones. He turned it off and stuck it in his pocket. Ashaes was worth much more than his need for music.

"Well, yeah," Ashaes relented, "all mobians are short, but still, I'm even shorter than most." Passing a hand over her head, she brought it straight forward to rest in front of Dusty's eyes. "See? That's how much taller you are than me. Screw all you tall people." She playfully kicked him in the shin, so lightly it couldn't possibly actually hurt, then turned her back on him as though giving him the cold shoulder. It only took her a second to get bored of that game, though, and she turned back around, asking, "So, whacha shopping for?"

Dusty shrugged slightly. "Nothin' really.." He replied. He wasn't actually shopping, just walking through the mall and taking a break from his sister. At least now he had someone to take his break with. Life could be cruel to mobians, or humans too, but not always. And one of those not always' was today.

"Oh, okay! Come with me! I totally need a new pair of jeans, and I'm probably going to look at some shoes, too, and...." Ashaes went off on a shopping list that could only have possibly been composed by a fashion-consious girl with money to spend.
She grabbed his hand, saying, "You'll have to be my other eye. I need a second opinion, you know!" With that, she began dragging him off towards a Limited Too store.

Dusty had to stifle a laugh; whenever he needed some clothes, his mom gave him money and he bought what he thought was cool and the right size. He didn't bring someone to give their opinion.
He followed her through the mall to the first destination.

Having dragged Dusty into the Limeted Too store, Ashaes immediately released him and charged her way over to a small rack of tops. She grabbed a spaghetti-strap shirt with Micky Mouse on it and a zip-up sweater with a hood. She then made her way to a pants rack and got a pair of jeans with the little sequin-like gems that make stylized flowers near the pockets.
With her little cache, she darted into the changing room. Two minutes later, she emerged wearing the clothes she had picked. Ashaes did a spin, then said, "Well, how does it look?"

Dusty put his hand to his chin thoughtfully. He frowned, equally thoughtful. Finally, he criticized; "The sweater could be a different color. Other than that," He gave her the thumbs up. Maybe following Ashaes around all day wouldn't be so bad after all; he could criticize her all he wanted, and she'd take his word.

Ashaes blinked. "Really?" She looked down at herself. "Omigod, you're right! What was I thinking?" Grabbing another sweater, the hedgehog dissapeared into the fitting room again, reappearing seconds later with the different sweater. She was now wearing a brown sweater, green top, and flower jeans. "Oooh, I look like a forest!"

"True, but it looks pretty good!" Dusty admitted. She looked like a pretty forest to him. A very pretty forest. In his eyes, it was a forest full of butterflies and hearts fluttering everywhere. He shook his head and blinked out of his daydream. "Anything else you needed?" He asked, trying to sound a lot less in love than he felt.

Ashaes stepped forward and knocked on his head playfully. "Hey, hey, you zoned out on me! I totally caught you!" With a giggle, Ash skipped back to the dressing room, returning with the outfit she was wearing before, a simple pair of faded hip-hugger jeans and a tank top with an unbuttoned dress shirt. She beckoned Dusty over the shoulder as she passed him, making her way to the counter and pulling a wad of cash out of her pocket with which to pay for the clothes.

Dusty followed Ash to the counter, half-smiling embarrasedly. He'd obviously displayed some of his affection for her, right in front of her face. Man I can be such an idiot, he thought to himself. He decided that from now on, he would act as neutral about his crush on her as possible.
