The stars shone brightly in the velvet black sky, as clear as the sparkling waters on the rainforest's coast. In a field outside of a large neighborhood, practically the line between urban and rural areas, a large hay bale sat. It was a bit picked apart by the lifestock, but still stood tall. Almost hidden in it's straw, a pretty hedgehog layed. Her small frame curled up in the soft hay, almost too soft, going in an out of conciousness. The night had started out as just a simple get away from the city, from the crooked thugs she dealt with, from the rush and hustle and honking horns and anrgy voices that were never ending. You could never see the stars in the city...it was almost as if the evil had chased them away.
But the hay was just too soft not to make a good bed, and though Haden didn't really realize, she was on the very verge of sleep. Her head and soft quills were rested on her arm, and her seablue eyes closed to slits. Beyond the wall of hay that had surounded her (since she had sank in a bit) the tall green grass waved in the cool breeze. It was like God's loving breath and gave this night the perfect temperature. Yes, she'd probably end up sleeping for the rest of the night. But she didn't know that she wasn't the only one in the field...

Meigetsu looked up at the moon, it's light shining on her face. A bright moon, a meigetsu. She loved these nights. That's why she always came out here to view them. She had permission from the owners of the farm to some out here, so it was legal. She heard a rustling, and knew she wasn't alone. She got up, her wings shaking to free themselves from straw. She walked around, wondering who else would come out here.
It was a delicate, young hedgehog. Well, hopefully it wasn't someone to fight. "Hey, are you all right?" she asked, going over to a clear patch of ground where she could have a campfire to cook the fish she caught earlier that day. "You hungry?" she asked, taking out some small steel knife and her own dirk to start the fire. Some hay had been moved, and she already and a stack of firewood built up for nights like this. A small flame had been produced, and smaller sticks were used to impale the two fish she currently had with her. They were put next to the fire to cook for the time being.

The 15 year old flinched in her sleep and her eyes popped open. The gorgeous hedgehog, (Ferna's new name) didn't look so gorgeous when she was sitting up and glaring at you, though obviously dazed. It took her a few seconds to realize what was going on and what this stranger had just said. Then her scowl deepened, "What the h*ll chick?" She muttered drowsily, angry that this....whoever it was. Desided to come over to HER and just pick a spot to start a fire near HER. Meigetsu imediantly reminded her of her aunt, or, the annoying relitives who never went home. Usually, Haddie wouldn't be so grouchy, but she was trying to sleep!
"Who are you?"

Mei turned from the fire to the stranger, "Oh, sorry." she said, "I'm Meigetsu Yonaga." she said, wondering what was wrong. Worry immediatly came to her eyes, "Are you okay?" she then asked, wondering if she could help. Her wings unfurled a little, soming out of hiding. They were normally put behind her back, hard to see. She had unfurled unconciously, tired of keeping them so straight for most of the day.
"Umm, would you like some fish?" she asked, hoping that food might soften the hedgehog. Maybe it was the light of the fire itself bothering her.. She got worried, was the hedgehog afriad of fire? Was the hedgehog afraid of her and covering it up with fear? These things were ultimately unknown for the young cat.

Haden's glare did soften after a few moments of looking into this halfbreed's eyes. She meant no harm. And now days, that could be rare.
She slid off the hay bale and sat down in the grass beside her, "Nah Thats ok." She said about the referance to fish, "And i'm fine too, thanks for asking." Her voice was friendly, and she was actually curious about Meigetsu now, "I'm Haden, some people call me Haddie." She looked down at the fish and the fire, "What are you doing way out here?"

Mei stared up at the sky for a moment before repling, "I"m watching the stars and moon." she said, remembering home a little. Even though it had some weird rituals, she still longed for it sometimes. Well, one way to remember home was to watch the stars and moon on nights like these... She looked back down to the fire, the fish were about done. She took out a lemon from her sash. Well, she had come prepared. She rolled it over and over on her leg to soften it. She always put fresh lemon on her fish. When it was available, at least.
She then looked up after she was done with her lemon, "What are you doing here?" she asked, wondering why such a pretty hedgehog was doing out in the back of a farm. She removed a fish, peeling of the crackling skin. Which was easy to do at this point. She got out the steel knife and cut the lemon in half. She sqeezed lemon onto the fish, makig it more flavorful. She then stuck her mouth into the side a ripped away, a piece of it going with her mouth.

Haden watched her work. Was she a chief? She looked like she knew what she was doing for sure. She never looked up as she replied with a laugh, "Actually, it's pretty much the same thing as you." She said, "I live in the city, but you can never see the stars. It's nice to just get away from that place sometimes."

Mei nodded. She had gotten her cooking skills from her older brother, who was a professional cheif. So, it all worked out in the end. "Watching the stars like this, it reminds me of home." she said, taking another bite out of the fish. She moved the other fish, away from the fire. Where it would still be kept warm, but not be cooking. Who knows, maybe Haden would want some later on. She took another bite.
"Although, my home was brutal and I left it on my own accord, I kind of miss it..." Another bite taken, and she put the stick near the fire so it would keep warm. She moved over to the bale of hay and sat down. She craned her neck back, and suddenly a shooting star flew across the sky. Her face lit up, she was very lucky tonigh, "Haden, look!" another star whipped by, it was a shower of shooting stars.

The shooting stars reflected in Haden's blue eyes as they brightened at the sight, "Wow...I've never seen that before!" She said excitedly as she watched in awe. It was beautiful!
"Where was your home?" She asked, though not taking her eyes from the sky

"Far away..." she said, "I never knew the name of the place, but it was a place of perfection." her eyes turned sad, "They kill babies born with deformities, and if you can't fly at a certain age, you have a deformity and you're killed..." Tears came, although not yet spilling over, "Everyong has wings there, the more extravagent, this higher class you lived in." her wings wrapped around her. Ther feeling of closeness and security comforted her. "I was in the upper-middle class..." she said, now it came... Her soft, pale blue fur became damp and streaked, as memories of her old life came to her. Her beautiful younger brother with wings of gold and black, upper-class wings. Upper-class flightless wings.

((so they killed her brother?)
Well, it must have been the place of perfection. A part of Haden, the part that she didn't like, said that maybe it was for the better that the deformed babies were killed. It would have been better for them. But she quickly pushed that thought away. What about their parents? What would they think? If their children couldn't fly, then who knows what else they could contrubute?
Haden put her arm around Mei's shoulders, "Hey, it's ok." She said, her voice enthusiastic but sympathetic at the same time, "There are places like that. That place is full of perfectionists, this place is full of opinionated americans (?). You must have been brave to leave."

[Yeah, it says so in her bio...]
"I know," she said, or atleast thought so. She always cried when the topic came up. She then agnrily wiped away tears, "That place seems like nothing, now. Just a fragment of my imagination." she said, her wings unfurled, the firelight falling upon them and making them glow almost amber. Yes, her home was long ago. It still brought tears to her eyes, especially the thought of her younger brother. She wouldn't have left in the first place if he hadn't of been killed.

Haden pulled her arm back, and finally took her gaze down from the stars, "Well that's good then. You can start over." She really didn't know what she could say to comfort her. After all, Haddie knew from experience that words didn't ease the pain. But never-the-less, there was nothing wrong with trying, "You know, my parents were killed in this car accident a long time ago. And it's not easy to grow up on the westopolis streets alone. Everyone's against you, everyTHING." She held her arms close to herself and gazed into the fire, and it reflected in her blue eyes, "But the worst part, is you can never escape it."

Mei nodded, "So, I think your childhood was worse." she said, she knew it. Her childhood was easy. She never had to care of being alone, if her family died, another would just take her in and the entire thing about her former family would be forgotten. She bet that at home, she had been forgotten. And so had been her brother. She atleast could make new friends here, while Haden had gotten the hard life.

Haden's eyes grew blank as they stared into the fire. It was like she was in a trance, and she could stare at it all night. But after a few moments, a strange emotion moved into the open space. It wasn't clear, it was probably closest to thoughtfulness, "Possibly." She said, "But there's a good side of it too." It was like there's a dawn to every night, and even in her situation, Haden saw the light at the end of the tunnel, just as captivating as the fire ahead of her, "It teaches us to fight harder, to our last breaths if it's needed. For what we believe in."
